FLASHBACK

By Steve Meckfessel

You can’t let those old feelings guide you

Or ride in the front seat beside you

You turn down those oldies, they’ll mess your mind up

Hold tighter and tighter and keep it lined up

Pull into an old roadside tavern

And step through the door to a cavern

You order a beer and a shot of whiskey

A couple more drinks and it might get risky

You savor that soothing potion

Dismisses all those work a day notions

Release all those tangled emotions

Sometimes you drive and other times you let it ride

About two hours and three whiskeys later

You toast to your new liberator

Your eyes catch the waitress’s pretty blonde hair

She bends around slowly and sends a long stare

The jukebox starts playing Van Morrison

You take in her perfect proportions

You peel off the label and drop a few clues

She slips on upstairs and slips off her high heel shoes

You savor that soothing potion

Dismiss all those work a day notions

Release all those tangled emotions

Sometimes it’s good and other times it’s not too bad

The music downstairs just gets louder

She shows you how nature endowed her

The neon sign pounds to the beat your heart takes

And heats up the fire that her wild love makes

The first thing you know it’s past daybreak

You leave with a dream and a headache

Next time you’ll stay on that busy highway

Or kiss it goodbye and take off the wrong way

You savor that soothing potion

Dismiss all those work a day notions

Releases all those tangled emotions

Sometimes you hold and other times you let her go
